Book cover design
Front, spine and back designed together, with typography that survives being shrunk to a store thumbnail.
Cover design servicesWho we are
BookZen is a book design and illustration studio in Chennai working with authors, publishing houses, educational publishers and creative agencies across several continents. We handle the visual side of a book — the cover that has to compete as a thumbnail, the interior that has to stay readable for three hundred pages, and the artwork in between.
What we do
Six areas of work, each with dedicated service pages covering scope, process and file formats.
Front, spine and back designed together, with typography that survives being shrunk to a store thumbnail.
Cover design servicesCharacter design, full-colour spreads and line artwork for children's, trade and illustrated non-fiction titles.
Illustration servicesInterior layout, typesetting and production support that takes a manuscript through to press-ready files.
Publishing supportAccurate medical, scientific and engineering artwork drawn from your references, sketches or source data.
Specialised workCartooning, storyboards, e-learning artwork and fashion illustration for campaigns, courses and products.
Creative illustrationScans, logos and legacy artwork redrawn as clean editable vectors that scale to any print size.
Vector conversionWhy BookZen
The same designers and illustrators stay on your book from first sketch to final file, so the style holds together across every page.
Agreed overlap hours, one named contact and written summaries after every call, so a twelve-hour gap never costs you a day.
Concepts come from the manuscript, the genre and the shelf it has to compete on — never from a stock cover with the title swapped in.
Bleed, trim, spine width, image resolution and colour space are verified against your printer's spec before any file is sent.
Revision rounds are agreed in the quote and tracked in one shared folder, with version history you can look back through.
One title or forty, the studio adds illustrators to a project rather than pushing your schedule back into next quarter.

Cross-section drawn from clinical references with callouts set for print.

Scanned line art rebuilt as editable paths, ready to rescale for any format.
Placeholder project entries. Replace the artwork, titles and descriptions with approved client work before launch.
How it works
Send the manuscript, page count, trim size and any covers you like or want to avoid.
We come back with direction, scope, schedule and a fixed quote before work starts.
Concepts are drawn up, then the direction you choose is built out in full.
Your notes are worked through in the agreed rounds, with each version kept on file.
Press-ready files, ebook and social versions, and the layered source artwork.
Who we work with
Briefs arrive from single-title authors and from teams clearing a full season's list.
Working worldwide
Most of our work is commissioned from outside India. Projects run on a shared schedule with an agreed overlap window, so approvals keep moving whether your day starts in Sydney or Denver.
Contracts, invoicing and file handover are handled in English, and manuscripts stay under NDA from the first email.
Discuss your bookClient feedback
The first round of concepts already understood the book better than the brief I wrote. Choosing one was the hard part.
Forty interior illustrations across three titles, all consistent, all delivered before the print date. Nothing came back needing a rescue.
We hand over rough scans and get back vector files our engineers can edit. It has taken a whole task off our team.
Placeholder wording. Replace with approved quotes and named attributions before launch.
